Heroes are Fair and Honest

Heroes are people who are admired for their fine qualities of being fair and honest. They show great courage when demonstrating these characteristics. They are people who understand the responsibilities that come with freedom. The definition of a hero is not only achieved through action but how society views them.

Police Officers are recognized as a group of heroes in our society. They enforce the law and good police work actually changes history. The most valuable thing we can do for our children is to set a great example such as those of police officers. This a lot of times follows the definition of being a hero.

Our daily jobs and responsibilities of being a parent is seen by our children. In these daily task we demonstrate heroic acts for our kids such as believing in our kids, inspiring them to always try their best, always tell them to tell the truth, letting them make mistakes without judgement, teaching them right from wrong. We can show theses heroic acts on how we handle and react to our responsibilities. These acts teach them invaluable life lessons.

As parents we reveal our character through our day to day actions. We shouldn’t just tell our kids to do the right thing but show them.

I have noticed that a lot of people will not ask to be refunded if the clerk double scanned an item or question a coupon or charge. It is very uncomfortable for people and a lot of times they tell themselves it’s not worth it. I started checking my receipts and spending when I was young. I do not label a double scan as a “confrontation” or an “uncomfortable” situation but I approach it in an amicable and friendly.

Most people will go out of their way to return an item that the cashier did not ring up then to tell the cashier that they double charged them. This is because people feel like a hero with a cape of honesty flying on them when they return what they did not pay for. They will cheerfully hop back into the store. But if someone questions a coupon or a charge then it is presumed as a face off on the war for fairness. Why don’t we feel like a hero to ourselves when we found we were double charged? We actually saved ourselves money. Instead we feel a mountain of emotions and sometimes embarrassment that this happened to us. We need to give ourselves the right to question receipts and exchanges of our money. We must stand up for ourselves and learn that we are hero’s when we catch double scan and almost more so then when we return a product that we didn’t pay for. It takes more guts to tell someone they made a mistake that is owed to us then a mistake that is owed to them. Let’s be a hero to our kids and teach them that money is about honesty and fairness in both returning an unpaid item as well as asking to be refunded for a double charge. They both are equally powerful and equally impactful on creating character.
